What is a Robotics?

A Robotics engineer in the agentic economy combines classical robotics (kinematics, control, perception, simulation) with foundation models — vision-language-action policies, learned manipulation, and embodied agents. The hottest hiring is at humanoid startups (Figure, 1X, Physical Intelligence), at autonomous-vehicle companies, and at warehouse-automation firms. The role expects strong systems-engineering skills (real-time loops, ROS, embedded), willingness to debug hardware, and growing fluency with diffusion policies, action-chunked transformers, and sim-to-real training. Most listings prefer candidates who have shipped to physical robots, not just simulators.
